Thursday, July 14, 2005, posted by Tom Weiss
The intelligent search engine for television shows, TV Genius (http://www.tvgenius.co.uk), which launched in June 2005, has started offering its tailored searches to special interest websites.Already, major chat site UK Chat (http://www.ukchat.com), a site dedicated to Big Brother (http://www.bigbrotherwebsite.net), a popular destination for Coronation Street fans (http://www.corrie.net) and the website belonging to Nicholas Rhear, author of the Heartbeat (http://www.nicholasrhea.co.uk), are using the TV Genius to steer their users towards relevant TV programming.
These sites are generating more than 50,000 searches per day.
Katie Jones, chief executive of UKChat.com, says: ‘We know what our members want to watch because they chat about their favourite shows. They’re always asking each other what time something is on. With the TV Genius, we can steer them to the right times and channels for top shows such as Dr Who and Buffy. This has proved tremendously popular.’
The TV Genius is available free to suitable websites. Tom Weiss, inventor of
TV Genius, comments: ‘It’s a simple procedure to add our search code to a referring website. It gives great value to sites that have a particular interest in certain shows.’
The relevant HTML code is available at http://www.tvgenius.co.uk/affiliates.html. The TV Genius is also available as a licensed technology for websites wanting to offer complete TV listings and search facilities. Webmasters with specific queries about using the service should contact richard.weiss@tvgenius.net.
