TV Genius and Filmnight Digital Partner with IPC tx to Deliver What’s on TV to Readers’ Mobiles

18 August 2006: IPC tx is to provide a mobile platform for its What’s On TV magazine following an agreement with mobile technology provider Filmnight Digital and search engine and content specialist TV Genius.

What’s On TV is the UK’s best-selling magazine, providing over four million readers a week with a mix of TV features, entertainment news, competitions and TV listings. The new agreement sees IPC tx license the TV Listings Mobile Engine from TV Genius to drive its mobile service for the magazine, including a full search facility and SMS alerts. Meanwhile, Filmnight Digital is responsible for the design, creation, hosting and day-to-day management of the new offering.

From September, users will be able to activate the service to access free* content from What’s on TV. By integrating the Mobile Engine from TV Genius with Filmnight’s content management and mobile publishing tool, What’s on TV will deliver daily content from the magazine to users’ mobiles. This will include TV listings, entertainment news, mobile downloads and watch list favourites. Users will be able to set up a personalised guide for TV listings and arrange an SMS alert for future soap plotlines plus the latest gossip and programme reminders - so that they never miss their favourite shows.
Tom Weiss, CEO of TV Genius said: “We develop products for the discovery of TV content. Our mobile ready EPG feed, including full text searching and reminders have been integrated with IPC tx’s content publishing programme. We are looking forward to developing this service to deliver a range of additional content for What’s on TV over the coming months.”
David McDonald, head of mobile at Filmnight Digital said: “Mobile information services are becoming increasingly popular, so it seems a natural progression to take the strong and trusted brand of What’s on TV onto mobile. Working closely with TV Genius and IPC tx and drawing on our extensive experience in mobile retailing and packaging, will ensure that we deliver a reliable and robust service to the end user.”
Miles Ross, head of mobile at IPC Media, said: "What's on TV is the UK's most popular magazine, so the launch of What's on TV onto mobile is a key part of IPC's mobile strategy. The expansion of both TV channels and platforms means that What's on TV mobile will have a critical place in consumers' TV consumption. The partnership with Filmnight and TV Genius has worked well in achieving both a creatively interesting and functionally rich mobile service and we look forward to working with them both on future enhancements."
