Relevance Engine
The TV Genius relevance engine monitors the usage of TV and EPG services and builds up a map of how shows are interrelated. Customers can either build their own custom relevance map based on the usage of their own services, or agree to participate in a shared relevance map where usage information is aggregated across a number of different clients.
Four different sources of information are used to build the relevance map:
- Content analysis - automatic extraction of key tags from shows and correlation of shows with similar tags
- User activity – collaborative filtering of user activity, including viewing habits and clicking on shows in the EPG, where shows that are frequently watched by similar people are connected
- User Preferences – collaborative filters of users reminders and show ratings, where shows that are rated highly by the same users are connected
- Commercial Promotion – broadcasters can promote specific shows as required within the relevance map
The relevance map is then used to provide contextual recommendations of content, personalised recommendations, user profiling and search.
